Values Statement

Currently, theater performers are at the mercy of for-profit businesses to keep in shape, extend their skill set, and keep up with trends in the business of live theatre. There is a lack of opportunity for us to find training options that include all of the following characteristics:

  • professional standard training
    • all teachers have significant training and/or paid professional experience in the subject they are teaching
    • all teachers provide an non-competitive, respectful atmosphere
    • all teachers give relevant constructive criticism
    • all teachers are there to share their experience and expertise in support of the students' personal career goals
  • flexibility
    • all classes are open to drop-ins
    • no long range time or money commitment
    • reservations can be cancelled at any time without penalty
  • classes designed to support working
    • all classes relate directly to being best prepared for auditions
    • seminars are designed to teach often over-looked skills necessary for managing a professional career
  • affordability
    • all classes are priced as low as possible according to production costs
  • accessibilty
    • all classes use studios close to high traffic public transportation

At HOME, supporting your career needs is our top priority

Definitions

Theater professional: a performer who works in live theater on a Showcase, Off-off Broadway, Regional, Off Broadway, or Broadway level, regardless of Union status. Theater professionals have in depth training in at least one of the performance areas utilized in professional live theater, including but not limited to acting, dance, singing.

Continuing education: training required to maintain professional level performance skills, add previously lacking performance skills, develop under-exercised performance skills, and to develop and maintain a career as a small business within the Theater Industry.

Affordable: cost set at the smallest amount possible to cover production costs and maintain a quality training experience.

Guaranteed wages: an hourly wage that a teacher is paid regardless of the number of students that attend their class. All teachers are offered the same hourly wage regardless of what they teach, the number of students that can be effectively accomodated in a class, or the day and time of day that class is offered. HOME absorbs the financial risks that teachers hold by teaching elsewhere.

Limited Space: the number of student spaces in each class is limited according to how many people can reasonably receive effective personal attention within the class timeframe.
