"To sing or not to sing?"

For Actors who aren't sure if they should sing at combined auditions or if they should attend Singer calls. Steven D. Cirillo, Broadway Vocal Coach and Musical Director, will talk about singing auditions for those who don't consider themselves "Singers". A safe environment to ask all of the questions you have about putting yourself out there in a singing audition. Get advice on how to prepare for the possibility of being asked to sing in an audition (even when it’s a straight play audition) and what to do when that happens.

Conquering the Dance Audition

Class Description:

* "Dancers" new to NYC

* "Singers and Actors who Dance" with questions

* "Movers" with dance audition questions and concerns

Lainie Munro, theater dance teacher/ choreographer/ dancer, will give you an overview of dance auditions to help you arrive as prepared as possible. Lainie will talk about both Equity and non-equity auditions and will cover:

> what to wear/ how much make-up

> what kind of shoes to buy

> how to "be yourself" in the room and give the best audition possible

> what questions to ask and when to ask them

> strategies for learning combinations most effectively

There will also be a Q & A providing you with a truly safe place to ask any questions you have about dance auditions.  



Teacher Bios

Steven D. Cirillo

Steven D. Cirillo received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with such international artists as Frank Glazer, Eugene List, Anna Kaskas, Brooks Smith, and Edwin MacArthur. In addition to being musical director/arranger for over 30 musical productions, he has performed in piano bars and for cabaret acts throughout the East Coast and in Manhattan. In 1991, he was commissioned to write the anthem for the Basketball Hall Of Fame Centennial Gala, which was recorded and broadcast nationally over the Cable Television Network. Currently in demand as a Broadway vocal coach, Mr. Cirillo's clients can be seen on Broadway in The Color PurpleCry-Baby, Curtains, Grease, Jersey BoysLegally Blonde, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Spamalot, South Pacific, WickedXanadu, and Young Frankenstein in additional to many National Tours and regional productions. He has musically directed a number of cabaret shows over the years, and conducts audition and cabaret workshops. Focusing on the acting of audition material and choice of repertoire, many of his clients make their Broadway debut every year.

Lainie Munro

Lainie Munro is a New York-based director, choreographer, and performer.  Most recently, she performed in the Cameron Mackintosh/ National Theatre of Great Britain production of “My Fair Lady”, which toured 26 cities across the U.S.A., including the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C.  Regional roles include Velma in “Chicago”, Diana in “Of Thee I Sing”, Helene in “Sweet Charity”, Kristine in “A Chorus Line” and Phyllis in the European tour of “42nd Street”.

Her choreography credits include an episode of “Hope and Faith” starring Kelly Ripa, “Oklahoma!” starring Rue McClanahan for the Broadway Series of Charlotte, “Das Barbecu” for the Arvada Center in Denver, “Crazy For You” for FSU’s Mainstage, and regional productions of “Seven Brides…”, “Barnum”, “Grand Hotel”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, and “Joseph…Dreamcoat.”  Her directing credits include “Great Day” for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., “Cabaret” for Weathervane Rep, “That’s Entertainment” and “Swing Time”, two revues she created for Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth 2, a staged reading of “Rainbow” starring Jerry Hadley at CAMI Music Hall in NYC, and a New York City reading of “Fine and Dandy” starring Noah Racey.

In addition to her work as a director, choreographer, and performer, Lainie also has an extensive teaching career and is a frequent guest artist for master classes in Musical Theatre on both the East and West coasts.  She taught Broadway Theatre Dance for the Musical Theatre Intensive Program at NYU’s C.A.P. 21 Conservatory.  Currently she is on the Theatre Dance and Tap faculty at Broadway Dance Center in New York, where she is also the Artistic Director of “The Broadway Big Brother/ Big Sister Program”, a program she created in 2001 that pairs Broadway dancers with aspiring young performers, giving them an opportunity to work together through rehearsals and performances.  Lainie was selected as a finalist for the 2003 Woman’s Day Magazine Awards, “Women That Inspire Us”, for her work with the Broadway Big Brother/ Big Sister Program.  This year’s cast will go into rehearsals in May and perform June 14, 2009 at the Danny Kaye Playhouse Theatre at Hunter College in New York City.

 Lainie holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Florida State University.  She is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and the Actors’ Equity Association.

Meredith Kaunitz

Meredith is an award-winning playwright, a critically acclaimed actor, a private monologue coach, a movement teacher, a language teacher/coach/translator, and a former Head Teacher/Coordinator of a two branch English Conversation School in sub-urban Japan. Meredith has coached actors to successfully sign with agents, book National and International Tours, and create deep, grounded roles as leads in New York theater productions. She worked with Hayden Christensen on his role in the feature film Awake. As a director, her innovative bi-lingual comedy show, That's komedi da!, was featured on WNYC Channel 25. As an actor, she performed an ecclectic assortment of roles including Ophelia (Hamlet), Deirdre (I Hate Hamlet), Rosa (The Rose Tattoo), Belle (A Christmas Carol) and a Singing Waitress (Naughty Little Christmas). She has worked at Shakespeare & Company, Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble and the Virginia Shakespeare Festival among others. Her performance and teacher training was accomplished at Indiana University, American Conservatory Theater, Shakespeare & Company, and privately with Ian McRae, Sandy Weiss, Daniela Varon, Steven D. Cirillo and Karen Beaumont. She has been priviledged to work with Timothy Douglas, Clayton Phillips, Baayork Lee, Peter Howard, Doug Scholz-Carlson, June Burch Heffernan and James Alexander Bond. She still performs occassionally at Gotham City Improv and with Untitled Theater Company #61. Her work can be heard on the internet radio variety show Radio Meatsauce on www.talkradiox.com.

Raymond McAnally

Raymond is a professional actor and coach, based out of New York City.  He holds an MFA in Acting from Rutgers University and has more than 13 years experience (See resume).  Raymond has also worked as a director, fight choreographer, producer, dialect coach, speech coach, and writer. 

He coaches privately and at the University level for acting, speech, dialects, and public speaking.

He is Artistic Associate of Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken, NJ, LABfriend at LAByrinth Theater Co, Founder & Head Coordinator of the Rutgers Theatre Alumni bi-coastal network (The RTA) and is a member in good standing of AEA, SAG, & AFTRA.

Wendy McClellan

Wendy McClellan is a director and teacher in New York. From 2002-2006, she helmed the Actors Theatre of Louisville Apprentice/Intern Company where she taught courses in text analysis, movement for the actor, ensemble building and audition technique. She created the first Actors Theatre-produced Industry Showcase for the Apprentice Company and developed a series of workshops with New York agents and casting directors designed to prepare the actor for the challenges of the profession. Many of her former students are signed with premiere New York agencies, working regionally and off-Broadway.

As a director, she has worked with a range of writers from Tony-nominated playwrights to emerging artists. She has held staff positions at Great Lakes Theatre Festival,
Mark Taper Forum, A.S.K. Theater Projects and Actors Theatre of Louisville. She is currently the Interim Director of New Play Development for Sonnet Repertory Theatre. While living in
Los Angeles, she was also the Artistic Director of Oasis Theatre Company, the first company to bring Anne Bogart and the SITI Company to LA. Her directing credits include world premieres at The Kennedy Center and Actors Theatre of Louisville as well as ongoing collaborations with New Dramatists, Stages Repertory Theatre and the community-based A Good Neighborhood. She was awarded the New York Coalition for Women in the Arts and Media's Collaboration Award 2006. Wendy is a graduate of North Carolina School of the Arts and a member of SSDC.
